Debate Competition: “Is social media a positive force or a harm to society? The pros and cons.” 

A debate competition was organized on 27th September, 2025 in St. Claret English Medium School, Chimur. The competition was held group-wise, among the four house groups — Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue. The topic for the debate was “Social Media – Its Advantages and Disadvantages.” The participants from each group presented their views confidently and logically. The students speaking in favour highlighted how social media helps in communication, education, and global connectivity, while those speaking against it discussed its negative effects such as addiction, misinformation, and loss of privacy. The competition created an atmosphere of healthy discussion and critical thinking among the students. The moderator of the competition Fr. Jijo Jose appreciated the participants for their excellent expression, confidence, and awareness of the topic. Overall, the debate competition was a great success and helped students to enhance their critical thinking, communication skills and knowledge about responsible use of social media.
